Hello Trish,
I am researching the Reen/Reene/Rean family my grandfather was born Archibald John Victor Reene born 1909 born Ridge Cottage, Falmer near Lewes East Sx son of William Reen born 1853 Byworth, Petworth and Amelia Reene nee Adsett.
The Reen family first appeared in Kirdford Sussex in 1790 and so far i have not been able to discover where they came from.
I have a family history with the earlist baptism 1790 in Kirdford, West Sussex for a Shadrach Martain/Reen son of William and Elizabeth Martain /Newel they had the following children baptised in West Sussex
Mary Bap circa 1887, William Bap circa 1789, Elizabeth Bap 1792 Wisborough Green, Joseph Bap 1794 Pulborough, James Bap Northchapel 1795, Henry Bap Ifield 1799, Thomas Bap Shipley, Reuben Bap Barlavington 1804, Sarah Bap 1801 Storrington, Richard Bap Lodsworth 1805, Benjamin Bap 1807 Itchingfield and Charles Bap 1809 Ashington.
In the parish registers they are described as travellers and gypsies.
I have spent some time trying to find out where the family came from before appearing in Kirdford in 1790.
I have recently started to look at East Peckham in Kent parish and have found a marriage dated 1783 William Martain to Mary Rearn/Rean and also a baptism for 07/10/1787 for Mary Reen dau of William and Elizabeth.
I need to go and have a look at the parish registers for East Peckham and surrounding parishes.
Also a few yeras ago i started looking at the William and Elizabeth Reen listed on the 1901 census at Horsemondon with children Frederick, Ellen Joseph and Alice i have the marriage certificates for the siblings and then at the time hit a brickwall and could not trace the family going back through the census and GRO Index records.
Reading the messages on these boards it would appear from what i have read so far that there is a link between the families.
Trish if you would like to e-mail me my address is [email protected]

Best Wishes
George
