If by chance it is the right family, there is a tree on Ancestry which gives William J, Emily and Ellen with parents..and William Search's father at least..only had a quick look.

The Ellen and Emily living in Oxfordshire were born there, so not connected

Most families had children from when they first married until they got to the age where it was not possable anymore, My gran had siblings 20+ years older than her being the youngest of the family

You're very welcome Jillian - if you get any further info and we can help then just let us know.

Rambling Report 2 Jan 2012 20:51

I'm not sure why you'd discount it because of the older children? from the 1911 it would appear that the eldest son stayed in Rochford but the girls were in Oxfordshire, ie that the family was split up after the death of the mother?

I did try the Mundia link but it wouldn't even let me sign up. Will try again tomorrow if I get the chance.

Thanks for all the help gang.

Thank you Rose. I have seen this family and discounted it because of the ages of the children already in the family; I hope to prove myself right or wrong.

Sorry to confuse you Rose. It was the 1911 that had two of the three children with the surname Learch and I was including that which is why I put the Freebmd stuff in there.

Marie, thank you. The date makes sense if they took it from her age at death. I do believe that this Alice Search did become Alice Grant.

Jillian - don't forget that Mundia link I put above if you can't access Ancestry.

It's quite useful to compare other people in your tree if you find matches.

I thought that marriage Jax...

If that is Annie as the mother, it looks possible William may have remarried 1915, so (as there is no death for him before that) it would be worth checking in 1911

I hear what you say Tracey but I live in hope. My friend and I just began doing her tree yesterday. Maybe in the future but the expense of even one cert isn't an option right now. I have the GR Platinum but don't subscribe to any other sites but here so I have no idea if extra info is available elsewhere which is why I asked. If we can't find the parents via the internet so be it. We are doing her tree for fun only, same as I do mine. We've been through the mill together so not being able to find any further back for now isn't important in the scheme of things. Take care.J

Hi it was confusing because you have put the surname in the post as "Learch"... for those births the name is 'Search'

there is this one death which could be the mother

Thanks for this. I'm going to assume that the person on Ancestry has the wrong Grace or wrong dob as my Grace had her birth registered Mar 1902.

Going to try to take a look at Ancestry now.

Thanks.

Sadly, even if we speculated on their parents, you will still need to get the certs to prove it.

So really, altho we could do some legwork now, it's easier and less time consuming if you got the certs first! (one will do!)

There's a tree on Ancestry has Alice Grace's birth as 8 Jan 1900 but I can't see her on 1901 census.

If you're not a member of Ancestry then you can search and view public Ancestry trees, and contact the tree owners, on Mundia (an Ancestry spin-off). They don't have any parents listed.
http://www.mundia.com/gb/

They probably took the birth date from this:

England & Wales, Death Index: 1916-2005

Name: Alice Grace Grant
Birth Date: 8 Jan 1900
Date of Registration: Jan 1987
Age at Death: 87
Registration district: Southend On Sea
Inferred County: Essex
Volume: 9
Page: 3105

The birth dates on death records aren't totally reliable.

(The record ties in with a marriage listed on that tree).

Tried putting 'Search' into the seach field and pages went haywire constantly flicking over saying results shortly. So apologies if there is a possible thread from someone on this but I can't get it.

On behalf of a friend I'm looking to go back further than the siblings I have on the 1911 living in a home for poor children.

The census has them as Alice b 1901, George Learch 1904 and Lily Learch 1906

They are actually

Alice Grace Births Mar 1902 Rochford 4a 716
George Alfred Births Mar 1904 Rochford 4a 744
Lilian Maud Births Dec 1905 Rochford 4a 698

Because they fall between the 1901 and 1911 I haven't been able to find their parents. I can speculate as to why they were in a home and could guess that one or both parents were deceased.

I have run out of ideas. Not on trees here. I've looked at everything I can think of but I'm wondering if there might be more on eg FMP.

I'd be grateful if anyone can come up with anything that might allow me to find the kids parents before the expense of a birth cert.

Many thanks,

Jill
