probably have to go and have a look

Thanks Marie i thought parents came from ireland.I did try for variations of surname but did not come up with Dowell.I will try a few more variations in 1881 to see if i can trace them

Yes i may have to do that unless i can trace the marriage in the parish records at sunderland library
Can you find him in the 1891 census befor his marriage in1894

you may need to get his marriage cert for his dads name

Thanks Shirley .In the 1881 census their are 2 john s born 1873 & 1874 but both from gateshead and none from ryhope in sunderland
