OK, to answer Patchem,

I'd done a little research on family search.org and got a scant outline, I have a neighbour who lives 4 doors away from me who is a distant cousin of mine, she gave me some info, which intigued me, and i wanted to know the truth.

My dad who died in 2001 was called Holbard, it was his dad Thomas frederick Holbard that was the mystery as he was often called tom Burton, his father was Tom Burton and his mother was Louisa Holbard, so he took his mothers name, his dad returned from ww1 and married or remarried Louise.

To confuse you even more, my grandad Tom Holbard was married twice, his first child was Tilly, he then married my nan Francis (Fanny) and had my dad Fred Thomas holbard 1930-2001 Eileen Holbard and Sidney Holbard

Francis had four children by a previous marriage to a Mr Rolfe and they were, Francis, Elsie, ted and tom
