Michele - you're welcome.

However, what I posted falls way short of all the info - it's just links to the censuses, half of which were found by others - no BMDs, naturalizations, draft/service records, passenger lists, etc.

You should have no bother saving the images I've linked to, right click and you're away - but do remember to magnify first, before you save, as that way you get bigger image files, and can magnify them much better afterwards.

I have looked at the records sent by mgnv and looks like I will be able to print them - will do it at work tomorrow. Does anyone have copies of the ships passenger lists and naturalization records etc? My email is if you have anything and want to send directly but I will be able to access them if you sent to this post . Thanks again
Michele :-D

Can I thank everyone for their help with these records - looks like I have more information than I expected and hopefully I can copy all the documents sent by mgnv which seems to cover all the info. It is always good to see the original images.

I have another branch of the family who I believe moved to Providence at beginning of 20th century;I will digest all this first but I might be cheeky and request help with my other ancestor at a later date!!
Thanks again
Michele

1900 Jonathon immig 1889 - the rest 1892.
It wasn't unusual for the guy to go out first, and get stuff sorted, like a job, housing, fares for rest, etc., especially if he had no rellies out in wherever.
NB 8 kids born 6 living - only 4 kids in h/h.
1910 Jos is marr. In 1920, there's 2 Joseph's - 1 with Eliz and the other (Jos2) a married boarder
Jos2 has a better age, but a worse d.o.immig - I'll go for Jos1.

As it takes a while to download and then upload to attach to GR, if you are interested in copies of the images, would you mind PMing your email address? It's quicker to send links from Ancestry direct. Then you can download them yourself.

Alternatively, if any one else wants to do the honours, perhaps they can post a brief description on this thread, of what they have attached to a PM so that it isn't duplicated?

Jonathan is listed as coal agent on 1881 census in Dewsbury, Yorkshire so could be him but not sure why he is on his own, unless Sarah Ann went later - they had 3 children on that census Mary Turner Ayrton (aged 7 - my g.g. grandmother who did not emigrate), Mary Ann (aged 2) and John (aged 1 month). She may have sailed on a later ship?

Michele Report 11 Feb 2012 20:23

Does anyone have access to records for the US and able to look at records for some of my ancestors? My ancestor Jonathan Ayrton b. 1842 in Burnley, Lancashire and Sarah Ann Ayrton (nee Turner) b. 1842 in Barnsley, Yorkshire emigrated after 1881 and there are records on Ancestry.com for 1900/1910 US census records, New York Passenger Lists 1820-1987, NY Port, Ship images 1851-1891, Pensylvania 1910 miracode Index Rocords (census & electoral records) and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania death certificate index 1803-1915. I am on Ancestry but not the worldwide and have just found these records but can't afford to pay for the worldwide. If you can access them would it be possible to email copies to me?
