Find Ancestors

Clare - here's how I went abt it.
First I looked up births 1900-1939 for Stan Buckn?ll
Then deaths for same time slot, then marrs 1930-1959.
FreeBMD only has half the quarters complete in the 1950s, so I did a free search on Ancestry - nothing new (but there's a 1987 marr in Pontefract).

I think we can discount these 2:

If you don't know where an RD is,say W Derby, you can click on the "W Derby" link then the more info "here" link, and see W Derby's in Lancs, and includes Everton. Sim, S Molton & Tiverton are both in Devon, so I paired them up - Atcham's in Shrops, just outside Shrewsbury.

My guess is Stan's moved from Devon to Oxford, and, in spite of the diff in spelling, the Glamorgan birth & marr are your guy's.

NB 1920q4 is the only pre-1952 marr quarter that's not essentially complete. If you get a pre-1984 hit on Ancestry that's not been transcribed on FreeBMD yet, click on the shopping basket, note the details, then back out. (Having Ancestry place an m.cert order for you more than doubles the cost.)

You can then go to FreeBMD's home page and take their View Images option, and look at the image of the GRO index and do your own transcription, then look up in the spouse's surname for a record matching your notes to find their name - it's a kludgy interface, but it's free.

I don't see a likely marriage. The only other death in Bridgend for a Bucknell of that age range is Brinley who might be a sibling.

I don't know know where he got married. I don't know of any children. His father and my great grandfather where brother. I'm trying to trace that side of the family.

They're quite recent, don't you have any idea of where he married. Are you descended from a child? Do you know of any childrens' names? Childrens' names would give mother's maiden name.

I've been using bmd website. I have been putting in surname and First name and then serching and when the results come back there are lots of marriages and I don't know which is the right one.

The marriages I'm looking for are after the 1911 cencus.

My example is Stanley Jones Bucknell (b1919) The results come back as follows:-
June 1939 Don Valley
Dec 1946 Oxford
Jun 1957 Tiverton

Think Clare means when searching on name she finds more than one possible marriage for that one name rather than the number of names on each entry

Which site are you using, Clare.

If it is freebmd or Ancestry, there is usually more than one marriage per page. The only way to find out for sure who married who is to buy the certs.

BUT, there are ways to cut down the possibilities. Look for each of the couples on the census after the marriage.

Some areas have local BMDs transcribed and these tie up the partners. Lancashire is one and also West Yorkshire. Google the area(s) you are interested in followed by BMD.
