That would confirm his mother being Margaret as in the 1861 census. Thanks |

Yes it is quite confusing. I found info on cricinfo.com which has the same 1833 date which is why I started having doubts as to the correct birth and parents. I guess I will need those certs. Thank you |

"Hi MarieCeleste, Thank you that does confirm the 1881 census is correct but conflicts with the other info regarding his birth in Bungay Suffolk in 1833"...don't believe everything you read on Wikipaedia.....they had my grandad as Llewellyn "Llew" Llewellyn...I contacted the Wales Rugby League with my grandad's details and it seems that L.J. had become Llewellyn "Llew". Half an hour later it was correct.... |

You didn't mention Bungay but I see that it's in the articles linked. Articles on Wikipedia may be user submitted so there is no guarantee of accuracy, if you want to be really sure then you need to get that marriage certificate. |

On the original of the 1881 it looks like the wife's name WAS entered as Mahala originally and then amended (perhaps by the enumerator) to the perhaps better known name of Matilda: |

Hi GlitterBaby I don't have the marriage cert. I do know they are in Liverpool in 1881 - some of the children are different in the 1871 census. It gives me a different mothers name and does confuse the date of birth and place. At least I can work on that. Thanks for your help |

Hi all, I have John Jackson [professionbal cricketer] on 1881 census as born in 1836 in Nottingham. Newspaper articles have his birthday as May 1833. I originally found a birth/christening ref [Nov 1836] on the IGI pilot scheme with parents John and Elizabeth[Smith]. Now I cannot find that ref. or any for either the 1833 birth or the 1836 one. He married a Mahala Reavil in 1857 in Spalding. He died in Liverpool workhouse in 1901. |
