The most usual form of marriage is by banns read where the parties are usually resident. There must be three weeks when the banns are read out at the Sunday service before the marriage can go ahead, and if the parties are resident in different parishes, the banns must read in both parishes. The clergy need to confirm where the parties are resident before undertaking the reading of the banns, which are invitations for any member of the congregation to note whether there is an impediment to the marriage (for instance, a sailor's wife may have believed her husband drowned, leaving her free to remarry, but perhaps the sailor's mother was aware that he was still alive elsewhere - sorry, poor example, but the best I can think of quickly). |

They did not ask their ages just that they were full age thats why they both say 21 I guess? |

Hi Jax - I thought of that but aren't bans called over three weeks? This was three days before the wedding. Maybe they told fibs because she was older than him!? |
