I looked up the above guy for another thread - there won't be an entry in the collection of CofE registers for his 2nd marr. The official record for this is in the registrar's own register. It was probably a rego office marr, although pre-1898, the registrar had to attend all non-conformist marrs as only C of E (and jews and quakers) were authorized to keep official registers, so even if there were a religious ceremony, the marriage was only completed when they signed the registrar's official register (after 1898, non-conformists - excl RCs til 1980ish - could be authorized to keep official registers. Non-conformist faiths could keep their own registers of these events, but I've not seen any of these online.

John's 1st marr is in the Manchester collection - here we know the church (it's got the code 56, which the site has decoded for us), the register # =1 (which translates to some block of years), and the entry # =349.
Since LancsBMD gives the entry #, it can pair up brides with grooms, and also, at 2 entries per page, we should expect entry # 349 to be on image # 175 (and it is).

The collection is called:
England, Lancashire – Cheshire – Yorkshire Parish Registers, 1603-1992
but, in spite of the title, it's really Greater Manchester.
It's only partly indexed, but it's worth doing a search first before browsing the images.

I have some marriages in Lancashire (Manchester) area and some in Worcestershire/Staffordshire/warwickshire too.

@Archives - thanks for that - i wasnt aware that you could buy a CD ROM of the transcriptions. Any idea where i might be able to obtain these?

What area are you looking at ?
You can purchase CD Rom's from from many Family History Organisations.Some are transcriptions, whilst others are filmed copies of marriage certificates that can be printed. Perhaps some members may have the area you are interested in.

there are also several (I think currently about 8) counties which have transcriptions - known as online parish clerks

can you give us a clue as to what area you are looking at please as there are also some other sites such as freereg

No, sadly the ones i wanted to look at arent for London

As far as I know the only marriage records available to view on line are those for London through ancestry.co.uk.

If the marriage you are looking for took place in London then please post the names of the people you are looking for with an indication of dates and we can have a look for you.

EDIT:- Sorry there are a few other counties that do have copies of original records too so please post the name of those you are looking for with as much details as you know and someone will have a look for you.
