Same Daniel Higley who married Elizabeth Chance nee Taylor ??born 1828 Worc in 1846 sentenced 12 months for stealing

I have the 1871 census from Ancestry.com when Daniel was aged twelve. At this point he is registered on the census as the son of William Harbach and Eliza. Eliza was indeed seventeen when he was born and his birthplace is recorded as Dodderhill, Worcestershire. After that he seems to have disappeared.

The Higley is purely and simply her stepfather's surname, not an indication of Daniel's father at all.



Unless you want to believe that he was born the result of child abuse.

Hmmm......looks like Daniel Highley sr might have been young Eliza' stepfather.

You do need the birth certificate for young Daniel. I do hope that he was not the child of little Eliza and her stepfather?

I have Eliza's birth as 1841, so I think that could well be her. She married William Harbach in Dodderhill, Droitwich. I therefore suppose her mother's maiden name was Chance and that's why Eliza had it as her middle name.

I don't have his birth certificate. I might have to send away for it.

She would havebeen too young to have son Daniel in 1858. Her father is listed here with the name 'Highley' giving some indication to young Daniels birth name

I guess she could have had Daniel age 17?

Do you have the birth certifiate for Daniel? The only hope of finding his natural father is if Eliza named him on the birth certificate

Daniel Higley Chance was born in Dodderhill, Droitwich, Worcestershire circa 1859. His mother, Eliza, married William Harbach. Their first child was Charlotte born in 1860 also in Dodderhill. Daniel appears to have been with the family in his early years and even took the name Harbach then.
