Hadnt managed to get back any further with Ellen Clarke, only found her mothers maiden name out recently. Is it a problem that I started a new thread? Didnt know I wasnt supposed to. Sorry.

Sorry for delay - Mothers maiden name is Franklin as per information given to me by family member who visited the grave in Church Elm Road, Dagenham, Essex with plot number etc.

What is your source please for Ellen's mother's maiden surname?

Have to go out just now but you may find Ellen under her mother's maiden name on census, depending on when John + Mary married?

Re the marriage it is also strange that when you put that into bmd.org the marriage isnt registered of Frederick James and Ellen Clarke.

Rootgatherer this is the earliest census I seem to find for these two. Going back it all goes a bit hazy.

Just looked on the 1891 and he was an 'Importer of French Flowers??' and was thinking - probably not, THEN noticed the address - 41 Camden Street ??

But searching back I still cant find John Clarke and Mary from Wappenham, Northamptonshire with daughter Ellen on any census.

Also assuming this is my Frederick James (albeit they put the wrong middle name) I cant find him going back either. I know he was originally from Soudley, Gloucestershire.

Dont know if I am missing something but have hit stumbing block can anyone please help. I have been researching Ellen Clarke born September 1859, mother Mary Franklin father John Clarke. According to census etc she was born in Wappenham, Northamptonshire. As of 1891 census was married to Frederick Charles James and living in London.

I cannot seem to find any other information regarding her past or indeed that of Frederick Charles James prior to 1891 census. Would love to be able to get back a bit further but just seem to be going round in circles. Please is there anyone out there you may be able to shed some light.

There is mention of a marriage on 2 Nov 1884 of an Ellen Clarke to a Frederick William James but I am not 100% sure this is them as he was Frederick Charles. Trying to find out his father and mother too.
