I have had another look jan and am red faced as the entry I was looking at for Mary Alice wasn't a birth in 1902 but a marriage.

i must be going blind haha! I do apologize for the wild goose chase.

It must be Joseph Else as I can't find any other Mary's born in Golborne at that time now

Where did you get the 'info' about two Marys two years apart?

There is only ONE birth on freebmd

There is a marriage in 1902 for Mary Alice Else, who was born in 1878

Advise your friend to invest in the marriage cert - the only way to be 100% sure

I do believe they may be her parents, just thought the marriage details might have been online somewhere to save her buying the marriage cert,
however like Brummiejan say's it may be too late a date to have the marriages up unless it's a free online Parish register that's already established if you know what I mean.

But your Mary was plain Mary on marriage, not Mary Alice. Have you seen what Jax has put?
I cannot see a Mary Alice Else on Freebmd.

The online marriage certs for Golborne go to 1930 but Mary and John aren't on it so they must have married elsewhere, other than the Parish church.

The other Mary Alice born 1902 Leigh was on the BMD's but haven't traced her parents yet.

According to a tree on Ancestry her parents were Joseph Else 1869 - 1918 and Mary Catherine Carr 1876.

Not sure what you mean about marriage cert - they always have father's name if known.
She had no middle initial so the above looks promising.
I can only see one Mary Else born Leigh around 1904, where did you find the other one?

she was born 1904 in Golborne so the census return is correct but there were two Mary's born two years apart in the same place.

I knew it was a long shot being a late date whether or not the marriage certs would reveal the father's name online but i thought i would try.

I thought parish registers may have revealed it :-)

Do you know when & where Mary died or what year she was born?

Katherine, I am not sure you can get online parish records for 1923, except possibly in London.

However, there is a Mary Else born Leigh who looks promising:
