Yes this is the info I have. The other thread says a lot but was asking about Stephen Cecil Hopkins for who I have no info and have not found any info on him. Not worry. Thank you for looking. With kind regads Donna.
Yes Reggie it could say that. I have not repeated my search from other thread. I am asking about someone different. I am trying to trace back from Stephen Cecil Hopkins. Not forward. At the same time looking for Dorothy. So that is why I mentioned them. Thank you for your time.
:-)

Hope so.

I think it may be Royal Field Artillery...............does that look more like it?

Janet

Must disagree with your statement that Dorothy 'couldn't be younger, or would have been born in England'. The family went to Canada in 1911 and returned to UK in 1920

Won't search any further, in view of the other threads

This seems to be the family returning to England:

UK Incoming Passenger Lists, 1878-1960
about Stephen Hopkins Name: Stephen Hopkins
Birth Date: abt 1914
Age: 6
Port of Departure: Montréal, Québec, Canada
Arrival Date: 5 Sep 1920
Port of Arrival: Liverpool, England
Ship Name: Melita
Search Ship Database: View the 'Melita' in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database

From what I have read (correct me if I'm wrong) John (great grandfather) and his new wife left for Canada in 1911, had 2 children there (grandfather and his sister) Grandfather born 1912 but his sister couldn't have been 2 years younger or she would have been born in England. What about trying Dartford records as people who emigrate and don't settle usually come back pretty close to where they left. Try familysearch for their births.

Have you found John on the 1911 census?

Dorsetbaby

Dorsetbaby Report 24 Apr 2012 12:54

Sorry my pc is on a go slow, John was a labourer and he married 2nd May 1911 Dartford. On the 13th May 1911 they boarded a ship and went to Ontario. John is my husbands great grandfather. His grandfather was born in Ontario and so was his grandfathers sister. We have them coming back to the UK in 1920. I can not find anything about them. His grandfather was called Stephen Benjamin Hopkins 10th June 1912 and his sister was called Dorothy Hopkins possibly 2 years younger than him. I have been trying for years to find her.
Thank you.

What is the occupation of John on the marriage cert ?

Janet

Janet Report 24 Apr 2012 12:26

Hi. Do you know where Stephen Hopkins was born? Did you try any of the census records from this site if he was born in England or Wales, Scotlands People if born in Scotland and census.nationalarchives.ie if born in Ireland. If his son was married in 1911, assume he was born shortly after marriage and 20 years after his father was born. It's a good estimated place to start.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 24 Apr 2012 12:21

where did the son marry?

Dorsetbaby

Dorsetbaby Report 24 Apr 2012 12:16

Where would I look to try and find out about him through his records? It says he was a Sargent Royal Force Artilary. Well I think that it what it says. That is what it says on his sons wedding certificate in 1911. Have not been able to find anything on him at all. His son John William Hopkins was born abt 1879 but not sure where. They have connections to Canada. Could this be through him being in forces.
Any help would be great.
