Assuming we're quite sure the name is McVittie, an all Scotland search for Janet McVittie 1890 -1900 on Scotland People gives just one index result...Janet McVittie b 1892 at Annan (Dumfries). There's no Middle name shown as it often is on S.P.

The marriage certificate has not been mis-transcribed it does definitely say Betey. I can only assume they changed their surname sometime between 1898 and 1901

I found a birth for Janet Betey 22/03/1898 Hamilton parents married Larkhall 24/06/1897... The marriage is between John Betey age 23 Colliery Fireman son of James (Farmer) and Anne Betey ms might be Glass and Rebecca Robertson age 24 daughter of John (Coal Miner) and Janet Robertson ms Love.

I have just had a closer look at the marriage certificate, which | friend sent to me, and noticed that Rebecca’s mother’s name was Janet Robertson formerly Love. Moving forward a generation, Robert Harrison's father’s name was John McVittie Harrison and that on his birth certificate it states that his mother’s name was Janet Love Harrison formerly McVittie. Janet is the child of James and Rebecca. I wonder if the marriage registration was mistranscribed or James, for whatever reason, lied about his surname??

The marriage info is from the birth cert of William .I didn't look for an actual marriage as it costs to look at the info

Found a death for Janet McVittie / Harrison (cross-ref names) no middle name
Died in 1926 and approx age at the time was 28yrs old. Born c.1898

Have checked the birth index for Janet McVittie / McVitie between 1894 and 1904 and there is no sign of the birth.

I don't have access to the census but someone may be able to look up a match for the above person in 1901 and try to narrow her down to a location etc.

I don't know how old she was as I only have her son's birth extract. As he was born in 1920 and she was married in 1916 she could have probably been born between 1898 -1900.
