I am also trying to gain info on a Thomas Evans born 1903 Folkstone i beleive, but because of the lack of info i have no headway. He was in the army and served on the Burma Railway.Because of the attrocities he was subjected to survived and was given a few years after the war to live.I do not no his rank, regiment or no. But its his army career with the Burma Railway that interests me.

Thanks. Its not enough to back up any positive answers and as you say its going to have to be the birth certs. I will let you now the answer.

jax Report 24 May 2012 23:36

It is all guessing on my part, as already said you need the birth certs to be certain of the parents/mother

Families did tend to name their children after other family members and quite often the same middle name would be passed on anyway Daisy had a middle name of May... Gladys was Mary according to the 1911 census

John

John Report 24 May 2012 23:19

Thanks again for the help.I think now Edith May is Irenes mother hence the same middle name. Also Kathleen could be Gladys Kathleen Sandford mother, but her middle names were Kathleen M. But was the M for May.

jax Report 24 May 2012 01:41

This could be Irenes Marriage

Ediths middle name was also May

The birth certs maybe the way to go to find out who the mothers or parents were

John Report 24 May 2012 00:25

Hi great stuff. Many thanks for your help. its my first time on the community board. Its great. Now i dont now if these are blood sisters. Irene had her mothers maiden name of Sandford in the birth record, but was born later in 1911 for the cencus. My hunch is being born from an elder sister. Also i did find Albert who i beleive to be the father married a Emma Slingsby 1901 but she died in 1910 age 36 which tends to lead me to this hunch.I dont think they would be adopted. The cert.i now can only be the true back up for this.

jax

jax Report 23 May 2012 22:34

So if Irene was conected to this family there were three daughters who could of been her mother

Kathleen born 1883 (Living in Herne Bay)
Louisa born 1889 ( was living in Folkstone)
Edith born 1894.....This one I would place my bets on :-)

The other four children including Gladys maybe they all belonged to Kathleen?

jax

jax Report 23 May 2012 22:23

As mentioned above he was living with two children

I looked last night and Kathleen was a servant and still single in 1911 and Thomas was married with 2 children

Albert was a widower living with two children and Walter and Louisa were still single living with him

Then there was Caroline who married in 1898 there are two other daughters mentioned on the 1881 census harriet and Rosa cannot see anything for Harriet and only a birth for Rosa...Harriet I think was Mary Ann H who married in 1899 and Rosa died as Rose in 1883. There was also a son William who died in 1883...the other two children are on the 1911 census with their parents

Herbert and Mary ann had 12 children but only 9 living in 1911

I think you'll have to buy one of the birth certificates to get parents' names.
