Thank you Maddie and MarieCeleste for your replies.
Please excuse late aknowledgment.
The marriage is a great find. I had assumed his middle name may have come from John ~Wyleys brother Francis who had married i think an Ann Phebe Fitzthomas. Perhaps they were sisters.
Well i never,
Best wishes to both. Maurice.

On the 3rd inst, at St Saviours Church, Jersey, by the Rev. Philip Fillent, John Wyley, Esq., of Stoke House, Coventry to Matilda Harriett, third daughter of the late Rev. William Edward Fitzthomas. ___________________________________________________
That explains why I couldn't find a marriage, also where William got his middle name from.

Maurice, I've found an article in Tamworth Herald 17 August 1940 stating he died on Sunday. He was born 1852 Stoke House, Coventry.
Will pm the article as it might be a useful appendix for your niece's project.
EDIT: There are quite a few others, one being he was on the board of directors for the London City and Midland bank.
Will send a selection.
