Jolee

The information about the grave is fascinating and it would appear you have found the missing death - Ann died before the 1861 Census. How did you manage to trace it? Could help with other queries I have.

With the details, I can order her certificate.

The wills are both interesting and confusing. I can recognise Amelia, the daugther who died in 1881, but will need to dig deeper to find out who Mary Ann Crosby is.

The will of Charles James horsey is really confusing. Must now look for a marriage after 1881 as Census showed him a widower.

Many many thanks

Arthur

Two probates found dont know if they are yours I have saved the image if you want to have a look.

15th December 1885. The personal estate of Amelia Horsey late of 22 Hemingford Road Islington in the conty of Middlesex - spinster who died 28th. Janarry 1881
at St Thomas's Hosptial in the county of Surrey was granted at the Principal registry office to Mary Ann Crosby (wife of George Crosby) of 93, Arlington Street, Islington thre administratrix (with will) of the personal estate of Michael Frith the universal legatee. - £905 0s 7d

11th December 1885 The will of Charles James Horsey late of 22, Hemingford Road in the county of Middlesex - gentleman - who died 5th. November 1885 at 22, Hemingford Road was proved at the prinicpal registry office by Amelia Horsey of 22, Hemingford Road widow the relict the sole excetrix £403. 12s 11d

Bit confused - did he marry an Amelia as when he died his wife was named as Amelia as was the Amelia who died in 1881 assme this one was his daughter?

Charles and Anne are my 2 x Gt Grandparents. Their daughter Emmeline Horsey married Arthur Nicholls 10 Sept 1876.

My query concerns both Charles and Anne.

Charles was born 03 Dec 1808 in St Bridget, Middx and died 05 Nov 1885. I have traced him through the Censuses from 1841 to 1881,
On the 1841 Census his occupation is shown as Ind.
On 1851 name spelt Hersey, occupation shown as Smith.
On 1861 name spelt Harsey occupation shown as Fundholder and he is a widower.
On 1871 occupation shown as Retired Locksmith and he is a widower.
On 1881 he is Retired and he is a widower.
On Emmeline's marriage certificate he is described as a Gentleman.

Anne Simmonds was born 16 Sept 1806 in Redbourn, Herts.
She married Charles James horsey 14 Nov 1830 in St James, Westminster.
I have traced her on the 1841 & 1851 Censuses living with Charles and family members, but cannot trace her on any later Censuses - supporting the fact she has died and Charles i9s a widower on the 1861 Census.

Can you find her death please.

Are the Censuses I have, the correct ones as Charles seems to be a wealthy Gentleman sometimes and a worker sometimes.

Any light you can shed would be much appreciated. I have put a lot of information, but if there is anything else you need to assist please ask and I will see if I have it.

Arthur Nicholls
