Hello all, Hope you are all well. Istarted researching my family in January this year and became totally hooked. I really enjoyed the discoveries I was making early on, as I had no real infomation. most of my facts have been backed up by relatives. But now I have really hit a rut. I found my grt gandfather x 2 birth certificate which gave me my gg x 3 name of parents, from that i found their wedding certificate on roots ireland site. but on the digital copy there is no husbands or mothers name.

does anyone have any tips to help me, bearing in mind i am still pretty new to this. I have just ordered a couple of books that might help me but i really would appreciate some direction or help, their details are>

william sloan and Alice Morgan
wedding, 4 Aug, 1856
Newry and Mourne, Co Down
Church, Kilbroney RC

they had a son

Charles Sloan
11 Oct 1858
Kilbroney

Charles puts his place of birth as Rostrevor Ireland in the 1901 and 1911 censors in England. He moved to liverpool as a shipwright and married in liverpool.

I hope i have given enough infomation for some help. Thank you in advance to anyone who reads this and extra thanks if you can help.

Marcus

You say...........

"on the digital copy there is no husbands or mothers name".

Did you mean to say 'fathers'?

I don't know what format the digital copy takes - is it a copy of the actual cert? Or something else?

If it is the cert, and no fathers were named, you will have to assume they were illegitimate

Does the image give their ages?

Please just delete the other one........or it will cause confusion

hi reggie, thank you for your reply.

the other one is deleted now!

sorry, yes i ment no fathers name. that also goes for the mothers name as well on the wedding certificate. I dont know if you are familiar with rootsireland website but I believe they are a digital representation of the certificate. however, i could be wrong.

As for the ages, again this is annoying as for William sloan and Alice morgan it just says "over 21 years"

I think it my be worth while me finding out if the real life copy of the certificate has anymore infomation on it. but as new to this I am not sure.

The record you have will be transcribed from the church records, as registration did'nt begin until 1864, non catholic marriages from 1845, your's is a R.C. marriage.

They also had a son John 1860

You could try contacting the church.

Marcus, if they followed the naming pattern, William Father could be a Charles & Alice's father could be a John

There a baptism for a William Sloan 1830 Kilbroney with a father Charles & a baptism for a Alice Morgan 1831 with a father John Kilbroney

Great!! thank you once again Maura, thats very interesting infomation. I guess there is a good chance they followed they naming patteren as Charles had a son called william, who had a son called charles (my grandad).

I am always a bit scared of jumping to a conclusion and being wrong. I will check out the websites now,

many thanks again for your information, you have given me a fresh boost as i seemed to be stuck. :-D

thank you joy, i have been looking at some of those sites and finding them very interesting.

Maura, i have a question, after you told me about john sloan, a son to william and alice. I managed to find the details on roots ireland. thank you very much!! but, my question, where did you search?

even when i know all the details when i search for them i get no results! :-) :-) :-)

again thank you for your help, I really think you could be right about the naming patterns.

have a good day

Marcus I found both childrens birth/baptism on ancestryireland.com but they only give the county of birth, so I check rootsireland.ie where you can narrow your search to a certain place or parish.

ancestryireland.com is the Ulster Historical Foundation, which is also part of rootsireland.ie and they both have the same information
