bazza Report 3 Jul 2012 11:11

I am trying to find the family of Richard Sanders b c1808 Devon & Agnes Littlejohns.
I believe they married 18.6.1827 Milton, Damerel Devon.

They had chn Grace bc1828, Maria b c1830 & possibly a son William b c1834...all born Devon. There were 2 other daughters, Sarah Jane b 1836 & Elizabeth Annn b 1839 but mother unknown.

Richard applied to come to Sth Australia, applied for in Welcombe, but on passenger list was Richard with wife (Mary) 2 daughters, a son & 2 daughters.

Richard died soon after arriving in SA & Mary remarried , a John Gribble.

Thru the Grbble name we can connect 3 of the chn.

My problem is...did Agnes die & Richard remarry before comimg to Aust.?

Who is the mother of the other chn?

Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated.

cheers,
Chris

I don't have any knowledge of Australian BMD's - but I would imagine Mary's father's name would be on the cert of her marriage to Gribble

Seems like the 3 chn all had Agnes as mother. Thank you for confirming that info.....was unsure if Wm. was Agnes's child.

They arrived in SA 6th Sept. 1840 on the Lysander.

The 2 younger girls were born in Devon.

Chris

Hi PollyPoppet, Thank you for the info.

Sarah Jane actually married a George Illman & the records I were given re Sarah says her father is Richard Sanders & mother Rebecca Jones, just to add to the confusion.

Other Sanders family members have never heard of Rebecca Jones so my source is probably wrong.

cheers,
Chris

I have just found the burial for Agnes Sanders nee Littlejohns who died at Grawley, Milton Damerel Parish in April 1835 and buried at Holy Trinity Churchyard, Milton Damerel, Devon on April 23, 1835. Husband Richard Sanders appears to have married Mary Block of Milton Damerel in 1835, no marriage found as yet.
regards Robin, a ggg grandson of Richard and Agnes.
