Also there is an Edward molloy in an institution although his occupation does not match
how do you find out how someone went to jail for ?

How would you find out why someone went to jail...and when they were released

There used to be a site called the 'blacksheep index' but it seems to be out of action at the moment.

I looked in the Manchester Guardian for him but nothing reported I am afraid.

Will keep looking.
