Find Ancestors

William Greenhill born Rolvenden Kent 1808 to Thomas Bayley Greenhill and Rose Osborne.Please has anyone any ideas I cannot find any trace of him except an entry in 1881 census age 73 a visitor at George PH in Headcorn Kent as a widower and retired miller. I have looked at all census inbetween and marriage records but no luck. I did think he may have gone to France at some point but cannot check.
I found a marriage of a William Ridge Greenhill in Cranbrook Kent 1866 to Harriett? but no details.
Also a marriage 1829 to Jane Homeward in Plumstead.Kent.
Without grooms credentials how can I know?
