I am trying to find a Glen O'kaloff in the records, it could be that he was from the carribean/West Indies, was in london around 1961, I have tried birth records, shipping logs but to joy. So either this person does not exist or there is no record of him anywhere, he shows up as father on a birth certificate, thats all I know. |

Paul, without giving anything else away, was the child called by the same surname? If not, are you 100% sure of what it says? |

yes there is only one child, the name of the father is the same on the certificate, due to other documents we can confirm it's West Indies/ Carribean, the mother & father never married. wE have details on the mothers side but nothing on the fathers side except name on birth certificate and other documents I can't go into on here. |

Do you know when and where he was last seen? I must say, the name is very unusual, it's almost as if apart from these 2 people nobody else has it! |

What other documents do you have, can you give example without giving too much away? |

I also dont see the birth of the child in the Mothers name, which it should be , if they were not married. |

...Yet he is mentioned by name on the birth certificate. Does it note that he also signed the register? ie. was present at the registration. |

I agree, there is no sign of this surname anywhere else. It looks as if it might have been an assumed name, or so completely mis-spelled it can't be matched to anything. |

I was thinking that if he signed the register himself, it may be possible to view the actual book and see the original record to judge whether the spelling could be different there. |

1) If it was the mother who registered the birth and pronounced herself Mrs OKaloff, formerly (Maiden name) even if she was not married then that would most likely be accepted by the registrar as being true. In that circumstance the birth would only appear once in the index under the name OKaloff. |

It would not be unusual at that time for the mother to have declared herself married ..................... |

Paul, can I ask how you are attached to this name? |

The daughter is a relative of my wife, her mother died, but carried on using her maiden name, as far as we know she never married at all. On the daughters original birth certificate it's O'lakoff but on her copy it's Olakoff. The daughter was always known as by her mother's surname and only used it when she got married. I think like many that it was a name made up, as I know for a fact she gave a false address on another siblings birth certificate. |
