Wondering if Violet was her daughter.
I have an ancestor who ran away from a violent marriage & went into a convent.
Don“t know if she actually became a nun, but she stayed there for about 30 years & died there.

Hi Vera and Potty
We have tried this but they say records were lost. The order of nuns actually teaching at the school were Sisters (or sometimes called Daughters) of St Vincent de Paul. These were also known as Sisters of Charity. These were the active order and the contemplative order also there was the Poor Clares. Randomly when searching for Mary Ann Costello (V iolet's mother) it brought up in 1911 census a Mary Ann Costello (aged 75) who was a nun in this order and worked from 9/11 Seymour Street Marylebone where the Order ran a creche and orphanage. She was the Head at that convent. Its all very strange but cannot find a connection to Violet.

googling Poor Clares brought up this:

fee-paying, boarding school run by the Poor Clares at Bullingham, Herefordshire. They had set up the school in 1880 to provide education for girls aged 7 - 16 and for boys aged 7 - 11.

Hi Maureen,
If you could find out where the records for the Poor Clares Convent in Lower Bullingham, Herefordshire, (where Violet Costello was in 1891) are kept. Have anyone else got any ideas where they could be kept.

Thank you all for your help with this. I am still processing all the answers. Chris the Elizabeth Maud Colman is the eldest daughter of Violet Colman (nee Costello) and that has given me the occupation of Charles which is an electrical engineer. Still not got her birth. I would be grateful for any suggestions. Many thanks again you are all fantastic.

I think the 3 females on 1930 Electoral Roll were the 3 daughters.
Violet Catherine Coleman born 1905.
Mary Ann
Margaret.

Interesting though 1911 Charles signed as COLMAN.

Charles David Colman baptised 22/3/1876
St Marylebone by Robert John Colman and Emma Colman.

Can't seem to find deaths for Violet or Charles!!

A tree on Ancestry gives her as

Violet Catherine Costello
Birth 15 Dec 1879 in Bloomsbury, London, England

Parents Charles Costello & Mary Ann

but doesn't substantiate the birth, and I can't find one on FreeBMD.

No further information given on either parent.
