Richard was born in 1827, christened 26-9-1827 in St. Breward, Cornwall. He is in the 1861 census living in Carne, Warleggan, Cornwall, with his wife Jane, and children Rebecca 10, Jane 8, Mary 7, Annie 4 and Thomas St. John 2. He died somewhere in Australia 16-10-1878. I would like to know how he got to Australia, why he went there, and did he have any other family in Australia? Many thanks for any help. R. Keith Brewer.

Can I suggest that you add Australia into your thread title.
It will make your enquiry more specific as some GR members can help you but others like myself have no idea at all.

Robert
Please may I suggest that you REMOVE the ticks from those two postings.
The ticks show on the Index page that the question (s) for this thread have been answered
.......... and that is so that no-one will waste time reading through the posts when everything has been completed.
The questions have NOT been answered .................. but you are not likely to get many more responses, unless you remove those two ticks
and reply on the thread to the questions asked of you.
Thank you

According to information I found on the web, and to several Public Family Trees on ancestry ...........
Richard Trewyn Runnells born 1827, Cornwall, died in Cornwall ............ not in Australia
Spouse: Jane Hillman Cawrse F: Thomas Runnalls Richard Trewyn Runnalls Birth: 1827 - Cornwall, England Death: 1878 - Camelford, Cornwall, England Marriage: 17 Sep 1850 - St Neot, Cornwall, England Spouse: Jane Hillman Cawrse
Other trees have him dying in 1878, St Breward, Cornwall.
where did you get your information that he died in Australia??????????/

Meanwhile ............... Robert has sent me the following pm, which may explain some details.................................
Hi Sylvia, there is a distant relative in Cornwall, that has supplied 46 pages of the Runnalls family tree. He isn't on the Internet, unfortunately. Richard is on the Cornwall census until 1861, but no later, and as my informant is renowned as a local Genealogist, I have no reason to disbelieve him. Many thanks for your reply. R. Keith Brewer.
I am puzzled by the fact that some of those trees on ancestry have an actual date and place for Richard's death in Cornwall ........ the problem is that none of them have posted a copy of the death certificate, so far as I can see.
But it does seem to be that there are 2 stories going around!

Well, it does look like Jane was back with her father in 1871:
CAWRSE, John Head M 78 1793 Cornwall CAWRSE, Charles Son M 44 1827 Cornwall CAWRSE, Ann Wife F 47 1824 Cornwall CAWRSE, John Grandson M 20 1851 Cornwall CAWRSE, Charles Grandson M 18 1853 Cornwall CAWRSE, Joseph Grandson M 16 1855 Cornwall CAWRSE, William Grandson M 14 1857 Cornwall CAWRSE, George Grandson M 12 1859 Cornwall CAWRSE, Mathew Grandson M 10 1861 Cornwall CAWRSE, Henery Grandson M 8 1863 Cornwall RUNNALLS, Jane Nurse F 46 1825 Cornwall CHUDLEY, Emma Servant F 19 1852 Cornwall
Piece: 2240 Folio: 28 Page: 17 Registration District: Liskeard Civil Parish: St Neot
Address: Lantuey, St Neot County: Cornwall
Where it gives her relationship as nurse I think that's an error. Nurse is also stated as her occupation.
Where are her children? Those listed look like they belong to her brother and his wife.

MC
the children seem to be dispersed ...... some are with grandparents.
I tried to find them last night, to see if it gave any lead to Richard.
I didn't post the relevant censuses as I assume that Robert has that information.
I did not however find Jane!!
I'm just very puzzled that those trees have very definite dates and places of death, in Cornwall

I've tried a couple of times to get on trove, the Australian newspaper archives
my link wouldn't load last night or earlier today, and googling it took me to the National Archives, with the same email address I had.
But using that on Firefox, just told me it didn't exist any more
???????????????????
Must ask on Genealogy Chat to see if anyone knows!

pm:
"Hi Marie? , many thanks for your reply, and for passing on the information on my problem. I think that the Cornwall Census Project shows that Richard left Cornwall between 1861 and 1871 censuses. I am 99% certain that the death in Australia is correct, but it is just how Richard travelled to Australia that I would like to find out about. All the best."
