Find Ancestors

Hi. Can anyone help me please?
I'm trying to trace back my family name and have got back to a Thomas Copeman who was living in St Clement, Cambridge in 1841 with a wife Frances and 3 children - Sarah Ann, Frederick and John. Unfortunately I seem to have reached a dead end as I can't find any birth records for Thomas.
I'm new at this but I assume a birth record would be the only source of parents names?
I have Thomas as being baptised in 1806 and have possibly found his death in 1854 in Boston Lincolnshire but have now run out of ideas.

Any help or advice that anyone can offer would be very gratefully received!

If you have Thomas's baptism, then you should have his parents' names on that record.

There are 3 Thomas Copeman deaths in the right time frame. How do you know which one is his? Have you bought the death cert?

I, also, don't see how you could have his baptism without his parents' names?

Yes, this is him - apologies it was an estimated birth date based on the 1841 census record - I hadn't looked up the 1851 record - didn't realise it included place of birth...

All census reports after 1841 have birthplace. These do get messed up from time to time though so just be aware!
If Catherine is not you, you can try contacting her to see if she knows more. 'search all trees' is found in search box above right.

1841 ages are rounded down to multiples of 5 so not good to use that one.


Parents' names not on English death cert - unless one of them registered the death.

EDIT if he was born in Boston and died in Boston, he could have been visiting his parents, so one of them could have registered the death.

...still can't find a birth record in the parish records though and therefore no parents names.

Already been in contact with Catherine - she knows no more than I.

I will try the death cert. but at approx 50yrs old I guess in those days it would have been unlikely that parent would have registered the death?

Not sure what else to suggest. If you were local you might trawl through parish records in person - not sure how many churches there were in Boston at the time!!
I am assuming not all records are online. I wonder if your local LDS family centre might help you out? I know they can order microfilms for you to view.
