Hello everyone,

So sorry for not staying on line long enough to answer your queries. The census for 1901 and 1891 are correct but the marriage isn't. I also found the Military records where Henry is not listed so perhaps he was abroad? If he changed his name and ran the road ends.

Thank you all so much for the trouble you have gone to, gives me faith back in human nature when people do things for no gain just to be helpful. Henry is one of those people you just think "I wonder whatever happened to him?" After 1901 he has disappeared into the ether but there was always a chance someone knew of him.

Thanks again and regards to you all - Babs xxxxxxxxxxx

The Army service records for Joseph Anning make interesting reading.

Went missing in 1916 - presumed dead in 1917

There is a form dated 1919 which mentions his mother, brothers and sister, but no mention of Henry

Hi GB, but OP states he was with mother and her second husband in 1901 - but this one is a widow? Something not quite right.

Can't be the same family as OP stated as the mother is widow. Need to see where the OP got the 1901 census, can't see it on A.

Can you post the 1901 census details? Chances are though, if he had absconded he may have changed his name to dodge the authorities so you may never find him!

Barbara Report 31 Aug 2012 21:29

Hello All,

I have come up against a brick wall concerning Henry. I know all his family details so that is not the problem. He was born in Newington, Southwark and was a stoker in the Navy. From his record, he absconded in 1900 but was shown in the 1901 census living with his Mother and her second Husband. I don't know whether he really went on the run then or was caught but he completely disappeared. He may have gone abroad but there is no gossip about him in the family. There are no marriage or death registrations for him.
Any idea on where to look next?
Regards - Babs
