Hi all back again looking for info on the James Isherwood that married Margaret Bilsborough at At St Andrews Marton in Craven. I believe his father was Richard Isherwood born at Gisburn. The son of James who was born at Leigh in Lancashire. Am I right do you think.
Margaret suddenly appears in James' life on the day they marry. Where did she come from? I believe, although the name spelling is different, she came from Downham in Lancashire, not that far from Gisburn or Marton in Craven Would be nice to back up the theory with some facts though.

Hi Sylvia, did my parents copy yours or did yours copy mine? I have a sister named Sylvia and to the best of my knowledge there is no other in our direct line going back maybe 250 years. Welcome
To answer the first question yes the marriage you detail is the one i beleive to be correct. A little more detail i've managed to glean from the igi search index is that James seems to have remarried around 1794 to a lady named Anne Arnold. Again I have no facts to back up the theory.
To answer your second question - Its an assumption i'm happy to make since there is no mention of the Bilsborough family in any Isherwood business or family history prior to this occurrence.
As an aside to the discussion i'm located in Tasmania Australia. We must both then have some difficulty confirming detail. Athough i did have 28 years in the UK.

Thanks to all that have replied to my thread concerning James Isherwood and Margaret Bilsborough and their marriage 7 Aug 1779. I'm still looking for a link that ties James' father Richard to the Richard born at Gisburn in 1732 which i believe is the same person. This Richards spouse i think was Elizabeth Whittaker, and his father was named James. James i think was born in Leigh in Lancashire around 1708. A deal of mystery still surrounds Margaret Bilsborough
