Yes I saw that one Patchem...surprising though just HOW MANY Constance Backhouses there are/were - hardly seems a common name :-)

Littleborough is about 4 miles from Rochdale...

Diane has not said what information she already holds, as to how she got to Constance, she cannot just have found her without some known facts.

My grandfather was a Hamer and Constance was supposedly his Cousin I am trying to find where she fits in. I have nobody to ask as my Aunt who is the only one left was just a small child when they died......

My grandfather Luke Hamer Kelly was born 1898 Rochdale Lancashire. His Mother was Sarah Jane Hamer b: 1874 in Bolton Lancashire father William Hamer b:1832 married Ann Kirk b: 1830....She married Luke Kelly in 1900...my grandfather also had a step brother Fred Hamer b:1894. That is all the info I have.

Constance's father Alfred was born c1845 which makes him a bit old to be Sarah Jane Hamer's brother (which he'd have to be for Constance to be Luke's cousin)

Have you looked in the 1881 census to try to work out any connections?
