Pleasure to help James.

The divorce papers may well give an address for George and that may help narrow the area to search for a possible re-marriage or death.

Good luck.

rootgatherer,

That is the right George Scott, thank you so much for that information, it gives me something definite to move forward with.

I have spent a lot of credits on SP and so much time working on the assumption that he had died around 1937/1938 and that my aunt, as with her other husbands, remarried shortly after his death.

I will now try to establish if there is another marriage for him and when he died.

Thank You again for this,

Regards,

James.

Interesting James that she married in 1938 as the paperwork for her divorce is dated 1939! You can get an estimate for photocopies of the paperwork from the National Archives of Scotland.

Reference Title Date
CS258 Court of Session: Unextracted Processes, 4th arrangement 1935-1994

Country code GB
Repository code 234
Repository National Records of Scotland
Reference CS258/4740
Title (Poor) George Scott v Anne E Clusker or Scott & another: Divorce
Dates 1939
Access status Open

Location Off site
Description 1938
Level Item
Departmental cipher S - Z C/21/38

EDIT

If Malcolm orders the paperwork in advance, he may be able to view it and take notes for you. He may also look for another marriage for George?

To date I have been unable to find anything new on George Scott except that one of my nieces said maybe he was in the Royal Navy, this could be a possibility as my aunts other three husbands were all at some point in the Royal Navy.

Okay James. I'll be going to Edinburgh in mid November and doing several days at NRS. I'll inbox you beforehand to see what you need and do some stuff on your behalf if it's needed. Cheers. Malc.

Thanks Malcolm,

Would love to, but my age and mobility rule that out, I cause enough chaos with my mobility scooter here in Orpington.

I hate to think what would happen if I was let loose in Edinburgh.

James, I think you could definitely benefit from a trip to Register House (National Records of Scotland - NRS, Previously GROS). You can get a one off "taster session" morning for free, or a full day 0900 - 1600 for just 15 pounds, both with expert help from the experts in the rooms.

You can do hundreds of searches and view the originals in a day there (though you have to pay to print or store them) Train to Waverley just across the road too.

Plan your various searches in advance using SP indexes (1 credit for a full page of up to 28 results!) then get the deatils for free at the centre.

Given myself a sore head looking for this one, think I will show his date of death as "disappeared" :-(

Hi Gins & Barbara,

I looked on Scotlands People before asking for information on here, I had a look at the actual records of several I thought might be possibles but nothing really matched up.

George was my aunts 1st husband, she had four husbands in all and she appears to have married very quickly after they each died, I know her other three husbands were all in the Royal Navy.

I am trying to find out what happened to a George Scott born in Edinburgh around 1905/1906, he was the son of a Robert Scott and Catherine Scott nee Dodds.

George married my aunt an Anne Elizabeth Clusker in Edinburgh on 22/04/1931, however she married again in 1938, so I am trying to find out what happened to him.

Unfortunately I have no living family who can help me on this one
