Hi Marie its a strange story. He was born in london with no birth certificate except his father on marriage was Thomas, I believe i then find him 1851 & 1861 living with grandparents in Croft Darlington then he turns up marrying Grace Hazard in sunderland in 1868 still have not found definate links from london-croft -sunderland so i am grasping at any straws |

Yes that is the tree i BELIEVE to be correct Jane died in Hurworth 1852 near darlington Ithink that was Jame's mother I never found why he was born in london or why james was not living with parents Thomas and Jane except Jane had a new baby in 1850 Mary Ann so maybe he was sent to live with grandparents just over the river as maybe Jane was unwell after the birth.then as you say Thomas remarried and James stayed with grandparents, next he appears in sunderland, but i can not proove any of this |

no you cant prove it but it seems to be the most likely and it may be that his new wife wouldnt look after the first lot of children so the only solution was to send them to the grand parents |

Thats the way i read it yet new wife kept baby mary ann i suppose grandparents were too old or to busy for a baby.I have tried conntacting Croft schools for records and have tried to find where he worked after leaving school before coming to sunderland just to make links, thats why i was wondering what extra info was on the 1881 census when it says subscribe for more information on the Education & Employment Status as i am not now a paid member of An***try |
