Now I looked again at the surname of the witness to Alfred Jnrs marriage and I can now see that it states Jefferies. And her address is 41 Garton Street... same as Alfreds!!!

Got to be - his grandad was also staying with Bakers in 1881.

There's something wrong on the original images of the baptisms posted above.

It says that Annie Katherine was born 24 October 1887 and Alfred born 19 August 1887 - that's not possible, the year has to be wrong on one of them.

Reason is that on the 1881 census Ralph Bye's father is a widower and is staying with the Baker family. Accompanying him is his son Alfred born 1861 in Dartford. There is no Alfred on the 1871 census, just Ralph. Suspect they're one and the same person.

Sue, birth dates are only as good as the informant's knowledge (I actually made a mistake on the birth year of my own dad when registering his death).

Do you know the actor Ralph Fiennes? His name is pronounced Rafe.

Yes, i suppose its possible, but the birth date is 3 years out, and not sure about Rafe!

Ralph Bye born 1861, Dartford Kent, married Annie Abell, b.1864, in Battersea.
I cant find Ralph, after 1881 census. He married in 1884, Battersea, and can find so sign of him after that.
Its possible Annie died in 1888 Wandsworth. She was 25, if it is correct, possibly in childbirth. Trouble is any births dont give mothers maiden name.

Wonder if anyone could help to find Ralph, in 1891 census or after, that is assuming he didnt die too. But can find no record of his death.
