Essex, apparently.....based on the reference to Chelmsford.

It would be helpful, though, if people posting requests would give fuller info

Are you sure of the date for James as 1796. Have found this family in Wimbish Green 1841 census, think it is the poor union/workhouse

James Martin 1786
Sarah Martin 1786
Henry Martin 1821
James Martin 1821
Sarah Martin 1824

there are various other Martins in the same place but not together with these..

Try using 'search all trees' to look for possible connections on GR

There may indeed be some descendants in the area, but unless they have researched their antecedents, they won't know whether or not they are connected to your father-in-law's line

Also, the odds are that most of them have a surname other than Martin

no James did not end up in Australia.
I have traced back through Ancestry from my father - in - law back. What i am basically looking for are there any relatives still alive of the ancestors living Chelmsford Essex as there seems to be quite a few Martins over 65+

How did you work back from the present day to 1796?

What do you mean by 'relatives'?

I am trying to trace any relatives of the Martins that were from Wimbish Green in the 1700's
The first one is James born in 1796 and he had at least 3 sons nor sure how many daughters. I think there was possibly 2 sets of twins Henry and James born 1817 and Thos and Mary born 1821. Any help would be great.
