William's parents were William Kilpatrick & Jane Smith William married a Catherine McCallum in Kilmarnock,Ayrshire in 1852. William died in 1910 in Glasgow. I am trying to find out about William's parents & whether he had any siblings Any assistance would be appreciated as I have seem to come to a dead end

Hello Dougie, what are the sources of the information that you have? What research have you done on which sites? (Just so we don't duplicate)
Do you have any idea of William's occupation or that of his father?
What children did William and Catherine have? (If we can place the family on a census it sometimes help us to work back).

A possible 1851:
KILPATRICK, William Head Married M 49 1802 Hand Loom Weaver Ireland KILPATRICK, Jane Wife Married F 49 1802 Ireland KILPATRICK, William J Son Unmarried M 19 1832 Apprentice Blacksmith Ireland KILPATRICK, James Son Unmarried M 15 1836 Trader Ireland KILPATRICK, Margaret Daughter Unmarried F 13 1838 Wool Spinner Ireland KILPATRICK, David Son Unmarried M 11 1840 Scholar Ireland

Address: Bickets Land, Bank Street, Kilmarnock (Ayr), Kilmarnock County: Ayrshire
(If this is the right family I wonder what his middle name indicated by "J" might be?)

William Kilpatrick's occupation was an Iron Forger William & his wife had a total of 11 children Four of their children died in infancy The children who survived were
John born in 1855
William born in 1857
Jeanie born in 1859
Catherine born in 1861
Mary born in 1866
James born in 1869
Andrew born in 1876
All of their children were born in Scotland not Ireland
You are correct Reggie in your observation Reggie. I already have the names of William's parents(William Kilpatrick & Jane Smith) What I am trying to trace is the Irish roots in the family.

Dougie, some feedback would be appreciated on the census posted above.
If the 1851 is correct then it's a start to tracking William's siblings but am not prepared to go further until you verify.
EDIT: Having said that, the 1871 confirms that the census I posted for william in 1861 is correct:
KILPATRICK, Wm Head Married M 38 1833 Forgeman Ireland MCCALLUM, Catherine Wife Married F 36 1835 Kilmarnock, Ayrshire KILPATRICK, John Son Unmarried M 16 1855 Hammer Driver Kilmarnock, Ayrshire KILPATRICK, William Son Unmarried M 13 1858 Scholar O' Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire KILPATRICK, Jane Daughter F 11 1860 Scholar O' Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire KILPATRICK, Catherine Daughter F 9 1862 Scholar O' Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire KILPATRICK, Mary Daughter F 4 1867 O' Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire KILPATRICK, James Son M 1 1870 O' Kilpatrick, Dunbartonshire
Piece: 501 Folio: 11 Page: 9 Registration District: West or Old Kilpatrick Civil Parish: Old Kilpatrick
Address: Beetle Hill, Old Kilpatrick County: Dunbartonshire
So I'm pretty sure that the 1851 I posted above would be William with his parents and siblings.

Sorry I should have confirmed that I think that the 1851 Census is correct. I knew that my Great Great Grandfather William Kilpatrick was born in Ireland but it looks as though his parents brought over their whole family The middle initial "J " for William is probably John. My Great Grandfather(William's oldest son) was called John. Thanks for your assistance
