Rosser - Jones Family Link

Laura Report 23 Apr 2013 13:25

I'm looking for anyone who can help me with any further information.
My grandfather Hector Rosser married Margaret Jones in 1936 in St Albans, Herts, they then had a child Gwyn Rosser also in 1936 in Neath, Wales who sadly died a few days later.
I'm trying to find out anything more about Margaret and her family and whether they had any other children together. The searching I've done has proved fruitless because I have no idea what happed to her after 1936 and my grandfather later re-married and is now dead. From Gwyn's death certificate I found out Margaret's father's name was William Jones but with Jones being a very common Welsh surname I'm not having much luck narrowing the search down at all.
Thanks to all in advance.

Hello Laura - have you bought Hector and Margaret's marriage certificate to see if it gives father's occupation, etc for her? What was her age when she married? We need to know her age in order to trace her.

I must say I've never come across a death certificate that names the father of the deceased person's mother ....... (or was he the informant?)

Have you searched FreeBMD for any other births with surname Rosser, mother's maiden name Jones? http://www.freebmd.org.uk/
EDIT: There are several in Neath, some may be another couple.

From what you say it sounds like they separated or divorced? Have you looked for a remarriage or death for her.

Even Margaret Rosser is a surprisingly common name.
FreeBMD has 25 of them who died between 1936 and 1964, the vast majority in or near Wales.

Two of them are in Neath, though both are too old to have had a child in 1936. And of course she may have moved elsewhere:

Deaths Jun 1958 (>99%)
ROSSER Margaret E 81 Neath 8b 414

Deaths Dec 1952 (>99%)
ROSSER Margaret 69 Neath 8b 419

As MarieCeleste says, we need her DOB to have any hope of tracing her or her family.

Probably a red herring, but perhaps she wasn't Welsh?
Perhaps she was born in St Albans where they married?

Laura, you were advised nearly a year ago on your other thread to buy the marriage certificate?

Did you do that? You're not really going to make any progress without it.

Also, on the left of these pages is a link "My Threads" (it's under Tools) - that takes you back to any threads you've started or posted on. It's much better to update an existing thread rather than start a new one (which is against GR's rules). When you add something to a thread it moves to the front of the boards again so people will pick it up.
