Amy & William Tomlin = 1861 census?

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

Robert

Robert Report 28 Apr 2013 17:17

William Tomlin (c1826) married Amy Clark (c1831) in the parish of Catmore, Berkshire in 1850.
1851 census; they are living with Amy's parents, Thomas & Ann Clark, in Lilly, Catmore, Berkshire.
Amy died in March1862.
William remarried in 1865.
But where were they on the 1861 census? - Their daughter Louisa (b1853) was with her grandparents.
I would be grateful for any help.

Thanks Ann;
Yes that's the family, but I can't find Amy & William Tomlin (Louisa's parents) in the 1861 census.
It's possible that Amy was in a hospital of some kind, although she didn't die until the 1st Q of 1862, but it's odd that I can't find William Tomlin either. :-S

MarieCeleste -
to answer your question above, William was an agricultural labourer.

Robert

Robert Report 28 Apr 2013 19:28

Ann & Argyllgran,
You amaze me. You have both come up with information that it took me hours to find - thank you for taking so much time on my behalf.
But it still doesn't explain where Amy Tomlin & husband William Tomlin were at the time of the 1861 census.(As I mentioned, Amy died in 1862 & William remarried in1865)
Their daughter Louisa Tomlin was brought up by her grandparents, Thomas & Ann Clark (as you have found.) She had a child she called Amy Tomlin (b1871) who was left with the Clark family when Louisa married !!
Ann; - Thanks for the info on John & William Clark - I will look into that.
MarieCeleste:- Would you believe William Tomlin was an Agricultural Labourer ? How novel !!
Many thanks to you all.
7.55pm - Have to log off - family just arrived...
