Find Ancestors

I am looking for my grand uncle William James Turner. I have his Birth Certificate13th January 1893 son of William and Amy Turner. Ref: 1d 36.

I have been looking to find what happened to him. I cannot see a marriage or death for him.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Vera - I am thinking that you have his passing. How sad as it now seems like only Amy and Johanna (Jemima) survived. Johanna was her name and seems that it was mis-spelt at the time of the census. Thomas was the other son and I have his birth and death.

The 1901 family is my family.

Thank you so much Vera for you time. I shall send for certificate as it is always nice to have a follow-up and a final.

It is interesting to note that my grandmother died at age 56 years and her sister age 55 years so they were not a family of longevity. My own mother was 80 years and so I am keen to see the death certificate of William.

I certainly will let you know - it takes about three weeks from the time I order on line and then it is posted to me.

I am pretty sure it is as I looked and looked for him - as I say could not find a marriage and a death, I relied on you coming up with the 1901 Census and that connection. I have so much on my grandmother's short life - she was a paper sorter and from that and being the first in her family to be educated, she set herself up in a little money lending business. From the sorting she was able to get stamps and saved them up - how I cannot understand, but that is the story my mother told me.

Mum said she was much loved by the East End Community for she helped every body in their time of need. She must have made something from it, but that was the idea. I have an early photo of her with a gold locket around her neck - this locket is still in the family. What I admire is that she took out a life insurance for all the family members and I have the surrendered paperwork on them all. Fine paper now and delicate to handle, but its all there. I also have her original birth certificate. Hard parched paper and black ink handwriting with a stamp of Queen Victoria cancelled across the signature. Interesting!

Joanna certainly sounds an amazing, lovely lady.
Having the locket and all the papers is quite something.
I know this might sound a bit fanciful, but when you have something that actually belonged to an ancestor............. I love the idea that the ancestor actually touched the article, whatever it may be.

Certificate ordered on line and will be sent end of July. Patience is needed here, but I send online to Moscow for my father's side and they only post replies by mail and my last one took three months.

Russian Archives are great and although I have to translate everything from Russian to English, it has amazed me how much I have found. Photos of great.great. grandfather and mother and great grandparents and just waiting for the file on my grandfather. My Russian grandmother I knew, but we never talked of Moscow, Russia or the family.
