We have got a copy of Jean Keir's death certificate now, so that mystery is solved! Thanks everyone for the information of Thomas McLean - give me more to research! :-)

Thank you for you help - it was very kind of you to respond! I have never been to Scotland's people, so will definitely got there for more information. I think Jean Keir's death certificate to be found there give the answer to my problem - her parents are given as John Keir and Elizabeth McLagen!

This is stating the obvious but in the traditional naming pattern, a first daughter is usually named for her maternal grandmother.
The 1st daughter born to Thomas McLean and Jane/Jean Keir/Kerr appears to be called Amelia.
Therefore:
Jean/Jane Keir/ Kerr would be the daughter of John Keir and Amelia Brown

so looks like Mary was the youngest and born pre registration

were any of the children born after 1855 when registration started i Scotland .If so their birth record may hold a clue .

Born c1806 Jean may have been a bit on the late age to have a child after 1855 though

I have hit a brick wall on one branch of my family in Scotland. My great-great-grandfather was Thomas McLean, (July 12, 1802), born Dowally, Perthshire and I have no further information on him yet. In searching the records I found two people who could have been my GGGM! I found two sets of birth records for her, Jean Keir:

1: Born Feb. 14, 1806 to John Keir and Elisabeth McLagen in Clunie
2. Born August 10, 1806 to John Keir and Amelia Brown in Caputh

Neither one shows her parents or anything else that could positively identify which one is my ancestor.

If anyone has any information on Thomas McLean and Jean Keir, whose children were James, John, Thomas, Amelia, Alexander, Jean, Margaret and Mary, I would sure appreciate it!
