There's another Croydon marriage witnessed by your William Smith.

This one is for Lucy Elizabeth Smith b.1850 marrying William Battis in 1877.

So it looks likely that the family and marriage mentioned above by Maddie and Chris Ho could be right.

EDIT: Just realised that although the transcript says Lucy married William Battis, the name is really William Baker. Same as the witness to William and Sarah's wedding.

This 1891 census ties her in nicely as being the same one on the 1851 census.

it looks as if im on a new track ie william smith snr from huntingdonshire. trouble is i cant find them in the 1861 census despite all combinations i put in. any suggestions pleaseeeeee

still no luck in the 1861 census, rootschat helped me find 2 other children who both died but any suggestions to how they avoided the census?
