Thank you Sylviain Canada. I will have a look at this all this evening. There certainly seem to be quite a few children born out of wedlock in this family! My friend who is Harriet's daughter was born only a couple of months after Harriet was married as well. |

Rambling Rose - Sorry I have just realised that he would have been born Houghton and was then reregistered as Hosker |

Rambling Rose - does this mean that Thomas Hosker's birth was reregistered in 1927? If so do you know what the possible reason for this would be. Thank you |

Hi Rootgather, Yes that is the 1901 census I found. The only reason I think that this might be the right Mary is that she was working as a servant in North Meols which was her birth place and near to her family - but obviously I might be wrong |

I am helping a friend with her family tree but we have both got stuck on Mary Jane Houghton. She was born in 1882 in North Meols, Lancashire. I have found her in the 1891 census but her surname is spelt Haughton. This is definitely the correct one as her mother had married a man by the name of Cropper and my friend remembers that this is correct. I may have found the lady in the 1901 census as a servant and again the spelling is Haughton but the place of birth is not correct. I cannot find a marriage for her at all. My friend says that she knows the lady did get married but it was after the birth of her daughter Harriet. Can anyone help? Thanks |
