Births after 1854 can't be narrowed down by mother's maiden name on ScotlandsPeople, unfortunately.

There's only one Ronald Abbott born in Scotland 1937-40 - nowhere near Grangemouth:

Ronald Abbott, 1939, Gourock.

I'm not posting the ref nos, as you haven't said if he's alive or not.
Anyway, you can find the record on SP from what I've posted

For such a recent birth, you can't see the details online.
You'll have to register with SP, find the record via the free search, then order a copy of the birth cert for £12.
