I first read your post as this shaving set had been found by someone in USA but, thinking about it further, is this one of those 'American Army issue khaki sets' which was given to american troops?

If so, this site might prove useful for census info and enlistment info etc from US:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPCZ-9DQ1

This is the sort of thing you might find:

Name: Fred H Biddle
Event Type: Military Service
Event Date: 19 Sep 1917
Event Place: Vincennes, Knox, Indiana, United States
Event Place: Vincennes, Indiana
Residence Place: Vincennes, Knox, Indiana
Age: 25
Military Rank: Pvt 1 Cl
Military Service Place: Army
Birth Year (Estimated): 1892
Birthplace: Knox, Indiana

Digital Folder Number: 008069055
Image Number: 04308

Citing this Record
"Indiana, World War I, Enrollment Cards, 1919," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QPCZ-9DQ1 :
7 December 2018), Fred H Biddle, 19 Sep 1917; citing Military Service, Vincennes, Knox, Indiana, United States, Indiana State Archives,
Indianapolis; FHL microfilm 008069055.

It would be very difficult though to connect any of the FH Biddles on there to this item, unless there is an army number or an issue number on it?

Dea it is an American issue Khaki set, someone on a shaving forum wondered who it could have belonged to, that is brilliant detective work! I think you have cracked it!

Thanks so much, I will pass the information on and I am sure the guy will be delighted and could follow it up

Fred Harrison Biddle Military Service from 19th Sept. 1917 to 8 Aug 1919 Vincennes, Knox, Indiana, United States Vincennes, Indiana born. 7 Feb 1892 died: 16 Oct 1967

You can also view him with family on 1910 census on the FamilySearch site and maybe later ones too but I haven't looked any further.

For a little more info -- I won't copy these here since people may still be living, but the 1930 and 1940 censuses, showing Fred with wife and children, can be seen free of charge here:

Apologies -- FamilySearch is futzing with its formatting and making me crazy; now needs all sorts of pointless javascript ... anyway, I managed to give you the 1910 census instead of the 1930.

That should be better!
