Find Ancestors

I'm looking for a death registration for John Henry JONES (jr) born 22 Nov 1859 Hampstead, Middlesex, England. It is most probable that he emigrated to Canada at some point after 1901 and that he died there. He may have joined the Canadian Mounties.

John Henry JONES (jr) b1859 was a Royal Hussar. I have the following census information:

1861 - 19 College Street North, St. Pancras, London
1871 - Grocers Shop, East Dean, Sussex (scholar living with uncle William MILES)
1881 - 11th Husaars Hounslow Barracks, Heston, Middx (single, private in Royal Middx Militia)
1891 - No sign of him - is anyone able to trace a census record for him in 1891?
1901 - Hounslow Barracks, Heston, Middx (single, private in cavalry)

No sign of him after the 1901 census. Family stories inform that he went to Canada.

Any information on his death or place of abode in Canada are most welcome. Did he perhaps marry after 1901?

For our info - John in 1881. Said to be born Marylebone, Middx and listed as Private 3rd Middlesex Militia (google - also known as the Westminster Militia)

The tree owner thinks that this might be him going to Canada - a blacksmith -

However, the image says this man was from Lancashire.


But there are so many records of men called John Jones born roughly 1859-ish, going to Canada!

Hi ArgyllGran - that's my tree with the photo on Ancestry.co.uk.
And that is a photo of him via a member of the family.
I just found that emigration of a John H Jones, blacksmith and thought it might be him???? Did the image of that passenger list say he was from Lancashire??? If that's so, then this can't be him.... Just checked, you are right, image definitely states LANCS. I missed that. This can't be him. I will remove it from my tree.

And yes, that's the 1901 census info I found previously too. Birth date given as 1862 instead of 1859 (I hold his birth cert so I know it should be 1859).

If it's not him emigrating to Canada in 1902 as a blacksmith, then yes that might be him in 1911 at the Salvation Army Hotel as a horsekeeper. Looks like this might be him in 1911 as the 1902 emigration was not him as he's not from LANCS. So many John JONES' - tough to trace him for sure!

Family insists he went to Canada. My great aunt remembers that her mother told her an advert was placed in a UK newspaper looking for family after he died (perhaps for inheritance purposes?). She thinks he died before WW2.

There's also the story that he joined the Canadian Mounties when he went to Canada. Anyone any idea how to trace records for people who served in the Mounties from approx. 1901 to 1939?
