Scotlands People website is down for maintenance until Tuesday 21st Jan, so I'm afraid we can't look anything up for you at the moment.

However, I can say that FamilySearch and Ancestry do not show their marriage - and I assume you haven't found it, or you would have given the date - so chances are it will not be shown on SP either.

Even if it is, parent's names are almost always not given on marriage records from so long ago.

They're also on later censuses, but I won't bother posting them, as I'm sure you have them already, and they don't help with your query.

In 1841 John appears to be a lodger with unrelated people, so that's no help either.

He's certainly on census records in Scotland after statutory registration began in 1855. If he died in Scotland, then his death registration will name his parents including his mother's maiden surname if the informant knew the details. As ArgyllGran has said, the Scotlandspeople website will be unavailable until Tuesday so you will not be able to look for his death until then.

There is no record of their marriage on SP - although that doesn't necessarily mean they didn't marry.

There is also no record of John's birth in Twynholm 1820 +/- 3.

The only one in the whole of Kirkcudbrightshire in that period is this one:

But Kirkpatrick Durham is about 15 miles away from Twynholm.
As he's stated as born specifically in Twynholm in censuses, I'm 99% sure this isn't him.


Many births and marriages were not registered at that time - expensive - so it looks as if there's nothing we can find - except as Erika says, marriage info may be on one of the children's birth certs.
Scottish birth certs give place and date of parents' marriage,if any.
