Unfortunately I don't have access to parish records and I would like to know if a copy of my ancestors marriage certificate exists. Do the records go back this far? Any help would be much appreciated.

William Hill b around 1798, Staffordshire
Sarah Boughey b 1798, Staffordshire

1851 England, Wales & Scotland Census
29 Hope Street, Stoke upon Trent, Staffordshire, England

William Hill Head Married Male 53 1798 Coal Miner Kingsley, Staffordshire, England
Sarah Hill Wife Married Female 53 1798 - Shelton, Staffordshire, England

The couple did have a son around 1826 called George Hill.

Sorry Im not sure what a family search site is Shirley. I was hoping there would be a book somewhere with the details of the marriage in.

No such things as certs until 1837

Parish records will have ONLY the names of the couple, the witnesses and the celebrant. Plus the date of the marriage

I think the witnesses were possibly church wardens or some such thing rather than friends or relatives as their names appear on other marriage records too.
