I did look at John Cross birth 1803 and baptism 1817, this would make him 14 years old. When John was returned to England from Canada in 1838 to serve his sentence for desertion he was 21 years of age. Perhaps his birthdate has been recorded incorrectly? |

Think the marriage we've both found Kath may be unlikely (but not impossible) to produce a child in 1803, never mind if the date has been transcribed wrongly |

This is the only marriage I can see of a George Cross to a Sarah in Flore, Northamptonshire. Earlier than you thought but then so is the baptism of John Cross that Greyghost found:- |

If anyone can help me track my ancestor no history of him at all. My late father Had notes John Cross was Court Martialed in Upper Canada 13 July 1838 for desertion ( no details on company or how long served there) he was returned to England served time on hulks before convict transport on ship Layton 3 26 July 1839 for Hobart Tasmania (Van Diemens Land) 10 Dec 1939 to serve reminder of 14 year sentence. Any help would be appreciated :-D |
