Hi,

Please can someone post the full 1841 census details for the household containing Clarissa Collins born 1826 living in Speen Berkshire. Possible others in the household, Edward aged 42, Hannah aged 35 and Ellan 14. (I think Ellan should read Edwin). I am particularly interested in the occupation of Edward and his birth place if stated and the address.

Actual places of birth aren't stated on the 1841 - only Y (yes) if born in the County concerned or N (no) if not.

The original is poor quality and I'm surprised the transcriber has made of it what they have! Although both males have occupations written in on the original, they too were not transcribed in 1841. I wouldn't want to try to interpret them, nor to say what "Ellan" actually is or isn't. The age is written in under the male column.

The image is faint and hard to read.
His occupation looks like (maybe) something Wright ?? Maybe millwright ??
He's not born in Berkshire.

On the image it has a tick in the last box which says that Edward was born in either Scotland, Ireland or Foreign Parts. Given his surname I would think possibly Ireland.

I can't make out his occupation. The image is very poor.

On the next page, and part of the same household, there's also Susan Collins 12, Henry Collins 8(?), Alexander (?) Collins 6, and Emanuel Collins 3.


I would hazard a guess that "Ellan" is Edwin:

Many thanks everyone. AG thanks I'll take a look at the Ancestry record for the Collman record., That 1851 census is the Edwin I am trying to link to the 1841 census. I have the actual marriage details for Edwin and Martha and his father Edrward is recorded as a Millwright. :-)

Thanks, Just found Hannah with Henry Alexander and Emanuel in 1851 still in Newbury she's recorded as a Millwright's widow so all fits nicely
