Find Ancestors

I have traced my paternal tree back to 1635 and find I have David John 1635 m. Jennet ? 1632, Hopkin John 1677-1727 m. Catherine Reese 1677-c1727, Winfreda John 1708 m. David Hopkin 1704, David Hopkin 1761 m. Gwenllian Bevan 1763, Alice Hopkin 1785-1859 m. William John 1783-1844. I have traced William down through his descendants ok. But I would like to know if he is related by birth to David, Hopkin and Winfreda? I am completely stuck on that query. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

As the above refers to ‘yeoman’ it is worth checking out the local records office to see if there are any land records. There could also be wills.

I know these dates are early but Welsh Chapel records were often destroyed on the assumption no one would be interested.

The Wedding Banns for William John and Alice Hopkins is correct and they all lived in the Llangyfelach area of Swansea.

So do the local records office or even the local fhs have any wills one other papers?

Where they lived isn’t necessarily where they were born

You say William died in 1844 - what was his last address? (On the death cert)

David and Gwenllian didn’t marry till 6 years after William’s birth, so he’s unlikely to be related by blood to both of them, and - obviously - neither of them had the surname JOHN

Assuming he was legitimate, he could only be a blood relative of a MALE with the surname JOHN

But John was a very common surname in the area, and Plasmarl is/was a whole village

I think David Hopkin is possibly Alice's father Erika, and I'm not too sure about the marriage I posted.

I think the poster needs to let us know how they got back to all these names. There are so many people with the same names in that area.

His address was Plasymarl same as Alice above.

The 1841 image is definitely 35 years of age for William - had wondered if it was a mistranscription, but it isn’t

Who registered the 1844 death?

Erika, of course where they lived is not necessarily where they were born. Shirley had not said where they lived at the time I asked the question,But it is also very useful to know if they spent many years in the same place. Especially if you are looking for evidence of wills, manorial records, land sales etc.

Shirley - have you looked into newspapers, online ate the library of wales.? I have had good results w it’s those.

I obviously need to go further into all these details. I realise there is info. missing which I need to find. Thank you for all your help. Will let you know if I can clarify anything.
