How old was John in 1861?

Hi
I have reached a point in my research and have been unable to progress. Hoping you might be able to assist please. The oldest document I have is the marriage certificate for John Beck and Eliza Henzell dated 25th August 1851 at the church of St Hilda in the Parish of St Hilda in Durham. Both of full age. John being a Miner. His father also John Beck a Gentleman. Place of Residence St Hilda. Eliza's place of Residence South Shields. Witnesses Mary Ann Stobbs and J Harrison.

The 1861 Census gives John Juniors birthplace as Newcastle. It is anything before the 1851 wedding that I am in need of if you can help please.

Thank you for looking :-)
