I'm looking for any information on cabinet makers, upholsterers and frame makers in wilson street bristol between 1880 and 1941. Any info on addresses etc would be greatly appreciated

Might be a case of searching online lists or else checking the street occupants in census.

A Google search found this, but I haven't checked it out.

You can search by address on FMP, although censuses only record residents. Unless they lived where they worked, I doubt you’ll get much joy there

Your best bet would probably be a Kelly’s directory, which can usually be found in public libraries

In 1939, there is a retired cabinet maker living at no 38

He was there in 1921……….Arthur Henry Nutt

Presumably you have some names?

Google Historical Directories - you should get a link to Leicester University. They have lots of Kelly and/post office directories ( these arenot phone books)available for free on line.

In 1921, there’s an out-of-work Cabinet Maker at no 14……William Lambson

Asking for comparatively vague info for the full extent of the censuses is a big ’ask’

Have you done ANY research yourself?

As well as the Directoies try the Historical Society, the local archives and the local FHS.

Sorry, but typing one handed for next few weeks.

The Francis Frith photos are worth looking at as they may give you some detail( if you are lucky)

In 1881, there's an upholsterer named John Routley (35, widower) living in Wilson Street - no house number given.

Members of his family at the same address included his brother William and his father John, both French polishers.

ADDED:
He was probably at no 19, because the next household is listed as number 18, and the next one is 17.

I can see adverts put in by Taplin & son between 1905 and 1928 but they all have Wilson St, Portland Square, no number mentioned.

As you can see above, Jones was at no 1 in 1898.

No 6 appears to be a residential property.

Google - Taplin and Son on Wilson Street in Bristol

First 2 results are University of Leicester Special collections -

Bristol and Suburban Alphabetical Directory and
Bristol and Suburban Trades directory

Both list Taplin and Son at 1 Wilson Street and the first also shows 11 Wilson Street.
