My mother and I are searching for information regarding her father, Albert Edward Clifton, who may have come to Canada, age 10-14, as part of the British Child Migration Program. All her father had ever told her about coming to Canada from England was that he came on a boat when he was at a young age and worked on farms. He mentioned riding the rails looking for work. In the Canadian 'Registration of 1940', he said that he was raised on a farm in Alberta. The only other information we have are 'facts' that he himself gave on documents such as his marriage certificate, childrens' birth certificates and his WW1 Canadian Attestation papers and we have no idea if they were true or made up as there is some discrepancy as to what he lists as his place of birth as well as his age which seems to change on every document. From different records, including his Canadian marriage certificate and military service papers, we have the following information: Full Name: Albert Edward Clifton Date of Birth: January 16, 1876? 1879? Place of Birth: London, Faversham or Deal, (in Kent, England) Father: William G. Moat Clifton Address of next of kin: Wandsworth, London (as of May 31, 1915) Mother: Annie Wright Religion: Church of England Raised: on a farm in Alberta until age 18 Enlisted: in Calgary for WW1 Discharged: in Winnipeg Marriage: to Jane (Jenny) Orange in Winnipeg, Manitoba -May 8th, 1919 We know he lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba after the war..raised his family there and died there in 1955. But we have no record at all of the first 40 odd years of his life. Any help would be appreciated. I would like to know the year & ship he arrived on, where he lived in Canada, where he came from in England. Maybe there are other 'Clifton's'out there that came with him? I am a Canadian living in Australia and need all the help I can get. Any information would be appreciated. Regards, Sharon Green |
